Welcome to Sounding It Out, a community in song. We are a performance choir who meet in Trowbridge on a Monday night during school term times under the direction of our dynamic musical director Caroline Radcliffe. We are a mixed SATB choir with four strong sections and around fifty members. A diverse and sociable bunch, we attract members from Bath, Bristol, Bradford on Avon, Frome, Warminster and Westbury – as well as Trowbridge of course!
You will find that we sing an eclectic range of songs from around the world with the main ethos of the choir being that we share our joy of singing. We love to share ideas and songs with other choirs both here and abroad and we aim to have a choir exchange every two years or so. In 2012 the choir travelled to Bulgaria to sing with a local choir. In 2013 we hosted a Czech Republic choir visit here and the highlight of the following year was a fantastic four day trip to Zelezna Ruda, where we met up with our lovely Czech friends once again to sing and socialise. We have performed at The Festival Hall and The Roundhouse in London, Bath Abbey, Wells Cathedral and the American Museum in Bath, also at many festivals, pubs, prisons and Christmas markets. You can even find us busking on the street.
“Singing from the Heart” sums us up. We sing because we love singing together with friends who love singing too and we enjoy all the challenges and fun that brings with it. If you are interested in joining us, we hold regular taster, try out sessions for potential new singers. To find out more about how to do this please get in touch with us through our contact page. There is no need to be able to read music as we learn by ear. However music is available to those who might want it. Whatever your preferred way of learning some practice is required at home using the online MP3s. Everyone is expected to learn all words by heart, no reading when performing!
