I was born in Germany and moved to rural Devon at the age of 8. I sang from an early age and was always encouraged to pursue my love of music. In my teens I co-founded a cappella group No Strings Attached and this taught me about creating harmonies and bass lines, but also about the opportunity of forming strong friendships based on a shared love of singing.
I studied Voice at Trinity College of Music and was thrilled to be surrounded by musicians. I joined 6-part vocal group A Rose Among the Thorns as well as up-and-coming vocal trio The Puppini Sisters. I had inspiring teachers who taught me about vocal technique, arranging and conducting. I went on to pursue my solo career in Jazz and Folk music whilst developing my teaching skills at Brunel University where I lectured on vocal traditions and led the Brunel Vox choir.
From 2008 to 2010 I ran the music venue Pangea Project where I programmed hundreds of diverse gigs from Americana to Afrobeat and Hip Hop as well as running a community choir. The closing of Pangea brought me back to teaching and I did a PGCE followed by working in London schools. This taught me so much about communication and how to create strong learning connections with people. It also helped me in my mothering which began soon after, and I now have three wonderful singing girls.
Having relocated to Frome in 2014 I joined the Jackdaws Songbirds choir run by the inimitable Caroline Radcliffe. I also took over some of her teaching work for a year and learned so much from her experience and wisdom about harnessing the joy of collective singing, creating a safe space to do so and the clever way in which she makes learning feel like play.
My musical projects have always continued in the background of the last ten years of parenting and I now am one third of folk trio Lorikeet, playing and recording original music and reimagining traditional folk songs. I also work as a singing teacher in local schools and love to be forever learning more about singing and vocal arrangement.
